Sometimes we concentrate on the magnitude of the world’s needs and don’t realize that our ministry is successful, even if only to one. Jesus said in Mark 9:41, “For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”
Jesus said a cup, not one hundred or ten thousand or two million – just one. In Matt. 25:40, Jesus spoke to some and said, “Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.”
Perhaps we have been indoctrinated, with the onslaught of worldwide television and global Internet, into thinking that smaller ministries are not important. We want to compare our ministry and our audience to others like Joyce Meyers or Billy Graham. We must remember that the Scriptures warn us, however, not to compare ourselves. God has given to each one of us a ministry and an audience to reach.
May each of us be found faithful, investing in the lives of those we can influence for Christ, whether the many or the few. Ministry to one or two or three individuals is just as noticed by our Father as ministry to the masses. The most important thing we must each remember is to fulfill our ministry, even if that ministry is to give a cup of water in Jesus’ name.
