Teachers and students can be under siege at times, as terrorism or dangers run amuck in some places. Constant threats can loom in our minds, or worse, in our children’s minds. We are definitely in need of serious prayer covering over our children and their teachers and school officials in many ways.
Some parents enjoy the privilege of home-schooling or placing their children in private or Christian schools, where the basic curricula and subject matter is better supervised. Others rely on public schools for their children’s educational needs. Whichever the case may be, all our children need prayer in many areas.
As this summer drew to a close, the Lord began to call me to create a prayer guide for parents, teachers, students, and others to assist in prayer coverings for our children and our students of all ages. Realizing the dangers at all levels of our educational system, I knew this was a dire need both now and in future days.
In response, Covenant Truth Ministries has produced this School & Students’ Prayer Guide resource for you to freely download and use simply as a guide or a supplement to your prayers on behalf of children – both your own and others.
In 2 Samuel 21:10-14, we read of a woman named Rizpah. Here we see that two of her sons and five other boys suffered capital punishment to make amends for a serious wrong. We will suffice this discussion on the validity of this action by simply saying that in Old Testament times, such could be done for vengeance and restitution. My point in directing us to this woman was her actions on behalf of her own boys and on behalf of other boys.
Her sacrifice drew the attention of King David and brought a healing to the land and people of Israel at that time. What had she done that was so impressive?
Rizpah went near to where the boys hung and made her home there for a few months, as she was there from barley harvest until the latter rains, months later. During this whole time, she watched over the boys and would beat away any beasts or birds of prey that wanted to devour those children. She refused to see those boys left for vultures’ lunch buffets, so to speak.
To me, I see a beautiful picture of prayer and intercession through this woman’s actions. Key points that we can apply today from this story include:
Using Rizpah as an example, may this School & Student’s Prayer Guide resource be a modern-day way that we, too, can watch over our children with the “weapon” of the “lance of prayer” on behalf of our own children and grandchildren, as well as the children of others.
Through this guide, you will find Scriptures the Lord placed upon my heart in various areas, so that we can cover our children’s many needs. You are certainly free to use this guide personally, in a small group or in your church as directed by the Lord Jesus. You may also add to this guide as the Holy Spirit directs you, since this is not exhaustive.
I trust that this prayer guide will be a resource you can use daily or regularly, following Rizpah’s example to shield and act on behalf of children everywhere. May the Living God who hears and acts answer these prayers and rescue our children in every area of their lives – both now and way into the future! Download your copy HERE.
