Each morning affords a brand, new start for us in some way. Yesterday’s worries are over. Yesterday’s sorrows are past. Yesterday’s accomplishments fade away. All that remains are faint memories. Today opens a new window of life, inciting fresh hope from the blackness of the past hours.
What if we awakened every day with a recognition of the new opportunities now before us? What if we focused on how we have come through the darkness of yesterday’s night? What if we declared over each new sunrise, “Today, it’s my turn?”
My turn for what, you might ask?
Psalm 113:3 declares, “From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same, the LORD’s name is to be praised.”
As I pondered this verse, I realized that my sunrise is someone else’s sunset. The earth revolves on its axis fading into nighttime or waking to new light all around the globe during the course of one day. So, in the fulfillment of this verse, at some location all over the earth at any time of the day, it’s someone’s “turn” to praise the Lord.
I should awaken to a new sunrise each morning realizing that it’s “my turn” to praise the name of the LORD. This word for praise is “hallel” and means to make a boast of, to cause to shine. How appropriate that as the sun begins to shine upon the new day God has granted us, it’s our “turn” to reciprocate by making a “shine” of Him, the Giver of the day. We have the awesome privilege to boast in Him with every new morning that arises upon us.
An opportunity lays before us to go through our day searching for moments when we can make our boast in Him. Moments when we can declare His praise, His honor, His glory to others in some way –
Multiple ways abound for us to “show off” our great God through boasting of Him to others! The question is: Will we? What if you and I wake up each morning from now on with this thought – “Today, it’s MY turn?” Why don’t you join me and let’s try it?
